体の外側にある硬い保護層で、昆虫やエビなどの無脊椎動物の体を支えます。内部の臓器や組織を保護しながら筋肉の付着点として機能します。
An exoskeleton is a hard outer structure that supports and protects the body of some animals, such as insects and crabs. The word can also be used for a wearable mechanical frame that supports the human body. In both cases, it means an outer skeleton rather than one inside the body.
