解説 Definition
exploring は、知らない場所や物事について調べたり、探検したりしていることを表す動詞です。森や町などの場所だけでなく、新しい考えや方法を試して調べる場合にも使えます。
Exploring is the -ing form of explore. It describes traveling through or examining an unfamiliar place, or actively investigating ideas, possibilities, or methods in order to learn more about them.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
exploring は explore「探検する・詳しく調べる」に -ing を付けた形で、語末の e を落として exploring とします。発音は /ɪkˈsplɔːrɪŋ/。explore a forest のような場所だけでなく、explore new ways のように方法や考えを試しながら調べる場面にも結び付けましょう。
Link exploring to the base verb explore: moving through an unfamiliar place or investigating a subject to discover more. To form it, drop the final silent e of explore before adding -ing. The word works both literally and figuratively: children can be “exploring the forest,” while a learner can be “exploring new ways to study.” In both uses, the memory core is active discovery rather than merely seeing or knowing something. Notice that exploring may follow be for an action in progress or follow spend time.

exploring の語源・成り立ち Etymology
ラテン語 explorare(探り出す)に由来し、ex-「外へ」+ plorare「叫ぶ・泣く」が原義。狩猟で獲物を追い出すために声を上げたことから「調査する」意味に発展。関連語: explore, implore。未知の領域へ踏み出す探検の語感に通じる。
Explore comes through French from Latin explōrāre, meaning “to investigate, examine, or search out.” The deeper formation of the Latin word is uncertain; it has traditionally been associated with ex-, “out,” and plōrāre, “to cry out,” but that analysis is not secure. Exploring is formed in English by dropping explore’s final e and adding -ing.
