連邦主義

連邦主義（れんぽうしゅぎ）は、複数の州や地域が一つの国に統合されながらも、各州が相当の自治権を持つ政治体制です。権力が中央と地方に分散された仕組みです。
Federalism is a political system in which power is shared between a central government and smaller regional governments, such as states or provinces. It is commonly used in countries where different areas keep some control over local laws and decisions. The word is often used in politics, law, and government studies.

federalism はラテン語 foedus / foeder-「条約・同盟」からの federal に -ism が付いた語。つまり「一体化」より「約束で結ばれた体制」が核で、federation や confederation にも同じ結合の感覚が流れている。
