foiling の語源・成り立ち Etymology
foiling は同じつづりでも語源が分かれます。箔の foil は古フランス語 feuille「葉」からで folio や foliage と同根、薄い葉のような金属箔を指します。阻止の foil は別系統で、「踏みにじる」が原義です。
