異端
解説 Definition

heresy はギリシャ語 hairesis「選ぶこと・学派」がラテン語 haeresis、古フランス語を経て入った語です。heretic や heretical と同根で、本来は「自分で選んだ立場」が教会の正統から外れるものと見なされ、異端の意味に固まりました。
Heresy came into English through Latin and Old French from Greek hairesis, which originally meant "choice" or "school of thought." It is related to heretic and heretical. The meaning shifted from a chosen belief or sect to a belief judged by the Church as outside accepted teaching.
