conformity は conform「従う・一致する」に名詞化の -ity が付いた語で、核はラテン語 con-「共に」+ formare／forma「形づくる・形」です。uniform や reform も同じ form の仲間で、「同じ形に収まること」が「適合・同調」になると腑に落ちます。
