orthodoxy は ortho-「まっすぐな・正しい」+ doxa「意見・考え」から成るギリシャ語系の語。orthodox や paradox と同じ doxa を含み、『正しいと認められた考え』がそのまま『正統』になると考えると覚えやすい。
