ギリシャ語 hysteresis「遅れ・後れ」由来で、hyster- は「後の」、-sis は「状態」を表します。hysteretic や anhysteretic も同系で、原因が変わっても反応が一拍遅れて残る感覚が、そのまま「履歴を引きずる」意味になります。
