Interviewing is the activity or ongoing process of asking someone questions in a structured conversation, especially to assess an applicant, gather information, or produce a news report. It is the present participle and gerund form of interview.
使い方 Usage
- be interviewing＋人で「人を面接している」。candidates や applicants など、質問する相手を目的語に置きます。 Use be interviewing + a person for an ongoing interview. Typical objects include candidates and applicants.
- spend time interviewing＋人で「人への面接・取材に時間を使う」。この形では interviewing は動名詞です。 Use spend time interviewing + a person to describe time devoted to interviews. Interviewing is a gerund in this pattern.

interviewingは interview＋-ing。interview はフランス語系の語で、もとは entrevue『互いに会って見ること』に由来し、inter-「間で」＋ view「見る」の形です。view や visible と同根で、『向かい合って相手を見る』感覚から『面接する・聞き取りする』になりました。
Interviewing is formed regularly from interview plus the suffix -ing. Interview entered English through French entrevue, referring to a meeting or encounter, and its modern spelling encouraged association with inter-, “between,” and view. The verb developed the sense of holding a structured conversation to obtain information or evaluate someone. Adding -ing marks the ongoing action or turns that action into a noun-like activity.
