jarrah の語源・成り立ち Etymology
jarrahは西オーストラリア先住民ヌンガル語jarilに由来し、英語がそのまま木名として借りた語です。土地固有のユーカリを土地の名で呼んだため、意味もほぼぶれず「ジャラの木・その材」を表します。英語内の同根語は多くありません。
Jarrah comes from Noongar, an Aboriginal language of Western Australia, probably from a form like jaril. English borrowed it as the local name of this tree. The meaning changed very little, and it still refers to the tree and its wood.
