Javanese は Java + -n- + -ese。Java はジャワ島名で、-ese は古フランス語を経てラテン語 -ensis「〜に属する」に由来する接尾辞です。Chinese, Portuguese と同じ仲間で、「ジャワに属する言語・人」という作りだとわかります。
