「高麗（コリョ）」に由来。高麗は918〜1392年に朝鮮半島を統治した王朝名で、西洋に Korea として伝わった。英語の接尾辞 -an（〜の人）を付けて Korean となった。関連語: Korea（韓国）、Koreanize（韓国化する）。
