loamy は loam「肥えた土、壌土」+ -y「…に富む」で、loam は古英語 lam「泥・粘土」に由来する。loam や loaminess が同系で、砂でも粘土でもない“作物が育ちやすい土っぽさ”を帯びた状態だと見ると、土質の語感がつかみやすい。
Loamy comes from loam plus the adjective ending -y, meaning "full of" or "having the quality of." Loam comes from Old English lam, meaning mud or clay.
