解説 Definition
建物や部屋、箱などに鍵をかけて、開かないようにすることを表します。また、人や物を中に入れたまま、外へ出られないようにする意味でも使います。
To lock up means to close and lock a place, room, gate, or container securely. It can also mean to put someone or something inside and keep it from getting out.

lock は「鍵をかける」という意味の古い英語から来ています。up は「しっかり終わらせる、完全に」という感じを加え、合わせて「しっかり鍵をかける」という意味になりました。
