解説 Definition
menu はレストランの料理一覧や、コンピューター画面で選べる項目の一覧を指す名詞です。日本語の「メニュー」とほぼ同じですが、英語では料理そのものではなく一覧表や選択肢のリストを指すことが中心です。
A menu is a list of food and drink available at a restaurant or meal. It can also be a displayed list of commands or choices from which a user selects an action in a computer program or device.

フランス語 menu「細かい・詳細な」からで、さらにラテン語 minutus「小さくされた」にさかのぼります。関連語は minute, minuscule。料理名を細かく並べた「詳細な一覧」だから、食事のメニューという意味になりました。
