Micromanagement is a style of control in which a manager pays too much attention to small details and closely directs other people's work. It is usually used in business or office settings and often has a negative meaning because it shows too little trust.

micromanagement は micro-「小さい」+ management から成り、manage はイタリア語 maneggiare、ラテン語 manus「手」にさかのぼります。manual や manipulate と同根で、「細部にまで手を入れる管理」が過干渉の意味になった語です。
