否定とは、ある命題や出来事が真実ではない、あるいは存在しないことを示す表現です。物事を拒んだり、否認する行為を指すこともあります。
Negation means the act of saying that something is not true, does not exist, or is the opposite of something. It is used in general discussion and also in grammar, logic, and philosophy. In grammar, it often refers to making a sentence negative.

negative を知っていれば覚えやすい語です。核の感覚は「マイナス」よりも「そうではない、と打ち消すこと」。文法なら not, never, no などが入る場面、論理なら true を崩す操作、と結びつけると残ります。名詞なので、deny が『否定する』動作なら、negation は『否定という働き・否定表現』そのもの。double negation, grammatical negation の形で見たら、この語だと整理すると混同しにくいです。
