nematodeは近代ラテン語Nematodaからで、ギリシャ語nema(t)-「糸」＋-odes「〜のような」から成ります。nematologyやnematocystにも同じnemaが見え、語源どおり「糸みたいな体の虫」という見た目がそのまま名前になっています。
