ユダヤ教の宗教暦の第1月。西暦のおおむね3〜4月に当たる春の月で、過越祭が行われます。
The first month of the Jewish religious calendar, falling in early spring and corresponding approximately to parts of March and April. Passover begins during this month.

アッカド語のnisannu（最初の穂・始まり）に由来するヘブライ暦の第1月。バビロン捕囚期にバビロニア暦から借用された。春の始まり（3-4月頃）にあたり、過越祭（ペサハ）が行われる月。シュメール語の「最初の」を意味する語根に遡るとされる。
Hebrew Nisan was borrowed from the Babylonian month name Nisānu during or after the period of strong Babylonian influence on the Jewish community. The Akkadian name is associated with the beginning of the year and the spring season, though deeper proposed analyses are not equally certain. In the Hebrew calendar, Nisan became the first month for religious reckoning and the month in which Passover is observed.
