Offshoring is the practice of moving business work or services to another country, usually to reduce costs or use special skills there. It is commonly discussed in business, manufacturing, customer service, and technology.

offshoring は off「離れて」＋ shore「海岸」＋ -ing から成る近代英語で、off も shore も古英語にさかのぼります。もとは「岸の外へ」の感覚で、金融や業務を自国の外、つまり海外へ移す意味になりました。関連語は offshore、onshore。
Offshoring is a modern English word built from off + shore + -ing. Both off and shore go back to Old English, and offshore first meant something located away from the coast.
