学問や学説を意味する接尾辞。生物学（biology）、心理学（psychology）など様々な学問分野を示すのに使用される。

ology はギリシャ語 -logia に由来し、logos「言葉・理」+ -ia「こと・学問」が土台です。もとは“ある対象について筋道立てて語ること”で、そこから「〜学」になりました。biology や geology も同じ log- を含みます。
Ology comes from Greek -logia, based on logos meaning "word," "reason," or "study." It first carried the sense of speaking or studying something in an organized way, and later became the common ending meaning "the study of." Related words like biology and geology keep the same log- root.
