解説 Definition
outtakes は outtake（未使用カット、NGカット）の複数形です。映画や番組、録音などで本編に使われなかった場面や音声を指し、日本語の「アウトテイク」とほぼ同じ意味で使われます。
Outtakes are filmed or recorded sections that are not used in the final version of a movie, program, interview, or recording. They may include mistakes, abandoned performances, alternative versions, or amusing moments later presented as bonus material.

A take is a recorded attempt, and an outtake is material left out of the finished production. Picture actors laughing after a mistake and an editor saving those clips for a bonus video. Deleted scenes is close in meaning, but outtakes can also include failed attempts and accidental moments, while bloopers specifically emphasize funny errors. One unused clip is an outtake; several are outtakes.

Outtake is a compound of out and take and arose in film and recording vocabulary for material taken out of, or excluded from, a finished work. Out descends from Old English ūt, while the verb take entered English from Old Norse taka. The compound’s modern meaning is therefore structurally transparent.
