An overachiever is a person who works very hard and achieves more than what is expected. The word is often used in school, work, or competitive environments. It can be positive, but sometimes it also suggests that someone is too focused on success.

overachieverはover-「度を越えて」＋achieve「成し遂げる」＋-er「人」。achieveは古フランス語a chief「終点まで」にさかのぼり、chiefやchefと同じくラテン語caput「頭」が根です。期待の上を行って達成する人、つまり「成績優秀者」です。
Overachiever is built from over- "beyond, excessively," achieve, and the agent ending -er. Achieve came through Old French from a phrase meaning roughly "bring to an end," and it is related in the distant past to chief and chef through Latin caput, "head." The modern word grew to describe a person who achieves more than expected.
