偏執的というのは、根拠もないのに自分が害されていると強く信じてしまう傾向のことです。人に対して警戒心や不信感を募らせて、協力関係や人間関係を築きにくくなります。こうした考え方は、精神的な不調の一症状として現れることもあります。
Paranoid describes someone who is extremely suspicious or afraid that other people are trying to harm, trick, or judge them. It can describe a serious mental condition, but it is also often used more casually for strong unnecessary worry. In everyday use, it usually has a negative meaning.

paranoid はギリシャ語 paranoia に由来し、para-「脇へ、正常から外れて」＋ nous/noia「心・思考」で、直訳すると「心が横道にそれた状態」。paranoia や noetic も同じ語源を持ち、単なる疑い深さでなく、思考の向きそのものがずれていく感じがこの語に残る。
