同じ成分や起源を持ちながら、条件によって異なる形態や結晶構造をとるものを指す名詞です。特に化学や鉱物学では、同一の物質が複数の結晶形で存在するとき、そのそれぞれの形を多形と呼びます。
A polymorph is one of two or more different forms in which the same substance can exist, especially in chemistry or mineral science. The word is often used for crystals that have the same chemical makeup but a different structure.

poly- は「多い」で polygon, polyglot と同じ仲間、morph は transform や metamorphosis に見える「形・姿が変わる」の核。合わせて polymorph は「一つのものが多くの形をとる」と覚えると残りやすい。化学では『成分は同じなのに、温度や圧力で別の結晶形になる』場面の語。different polymorphs, crystal polymorph などの言い方と結びつけると定着する。polymer のような“つながって長くなる物質”とは別物で、“同じ物質の別の形”に意識を置くと混同しにくい。
`Poly-` means "many," and `morph` is about form or shape, like in `metamorphosis`. Put them together as "many forms." A good memory hook is the science phrase `different polymorphs` or `crystal polymorph`. Do not confuse it with `polymer`: that is about long chains, not different forms of the same thing.
