税金が差し引かれる前の金額のこと。課税前の収入や利益を指す。
覚え方のコツ
pre- は preview, prepay, preschool などで見慣れる「前もって」の感覚。そこに tax が付くので、pretax はそのまま「税の前」=「税引き前」と取れる。after-tax / post-tax とセットで対比すると定着しやすい。給与の話では pretax income、企業会計では pretax profit や pretax earnings が頻出。金額の種類を説明するラベルだと意識し、“実際に受け取る手取り額”や “tax included” 系の表現と混同しないようにすると覚えやすい。
