特権的な
解説 Definition
privileged は、privilege(特権を与える、特権)の過去分詞からできた形で、「特権的な、恵まれた」という意味の形容詞としてよく使われます。社会的・経済的に有利な立場にある人や集団を表すときに使われます。
Having special rights, advantages, opportunities, or social and economic benefits that are not available to everyone. The adjective often describes people or groups whose wealth, status, education, or background places them in a comparatively favorable position.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
privileged は privilege に -d を付けた過去分詞形で、語末が無声音ではないため -ed は /d/ と発音します。形容詞では a privileged family、privileged students/groups のように、社会的・経済的な利益や機会を多く持つ「恵まれた、特権的な」を表します。単に lucky より構造的な有利さを示す語です。
Privileged comes from the verb and noun privilege plus -d. Because privilege ends in a voiced sound, the ending is pronounced /d/, not /ɪd/. In its common adjectival use, picture a privileged family, privileged students, or privileged groups: they possess advantages, opportunities, money, status, or influence that many others lack. This is stronger and more socially focused than merely lucky, which can describe a single fortunate event. The word often invites comparison between groups and may carry a critical tone when those advantages are unequal or unearned. Link the form directly to privilege: someone granted or possessing privilege is privileged.

privileged の語源・成り立ち Etymology
ラテン語 privilegium(個人への特別法)から。privus(個人の)+lex/legis(法律)の合成語で、「特定の人だけに適用される法」が原義。法の下の例外という発想が「特権」に発展した。関連語: private(私的な)、legal(法的な)。
Privileged is the past-participial form of privilege. Privilege comes through Old French from Latin privilegium, originally a law or provision concerning a private individual. The Latin formation combines privus, “individual” or “private,” with lex, whose genitive is legis, “law.” An exceptional rule applying to a particular person developed into the idea of a special right or advantage. English later formed the verb privilege and its participle privileged, which became a common adjective for socially or economically advantaged people.
