覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
`procession` が「行列」だと分かれば、`processional` は `-al` が付いた「行列に関する」という形容詞だと整理できる。普通の `line` より、宗教儀式・卒業式・式典などの厳かな列を思い浮かべると残りやすい。`processional music` は入場行進の音楽、`processional route` は行列の進む経路。`process`「過程」とつづりが近いので、そちらと混同しないよう注意。
If you know `procession`, then `processional` is the adjective form with `-al`. It usually brings to mind a formal line of people at a ceremony, not just any line. Be careful not to confuse it with `process`, which looks similar but means something very different.

processional の語源・成り立ち Etymology
processional はラテン語 procedere「前へ進む」由来の procession に、形容詞化の -al が付いた語。pro-「前へ」+ cedere「行く」で、proceed や procession と同根だから、「行列の」は人が前進しつつ連なる情景だと見えてくる。
Processional comes from procession plus the adjective ending -al. Procession comes from Latin processio, from procedere, meaning "to go forward," built from pro- "forward" and cedere "to go." The idea of moving forward in order led naturally to the sense connected with a formal line of people. Proceed comes from the same Latin root.
