解説 Definition
realizing は realize(実現する、気づく)の現在分詞・動名詞です。ここでは計画や目標を現実のものにする、実現するという意味で使います。
Realizing means bringing a dream, plan, idea, or goal into actual existence or successful operation. As a present participle or gerund, it describes that process while it is happening or treats the process itself as an activity.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
realizing は realize「現実のものにする」の語末の無音 e を取って -ing を付けた現在分詞・動名詞です。real「現実の」と結び、realize a dream/plan/idea を「夢・計画・考えを現実化する」と覚えます。「気づく」の語義もありますが、ここでは目的語を実現する用法です。
Link realizing with real: when people are realizing a dream or plan, they are making it real. It is the -ing form of realize, made by dropping the final silent e before adding -ing. Useful combinations include realizing a dream, realizing a plan, and realizing an idea. Realize can also mean “become aware of something,” but the objects in this entry point to a different sense: a goal or idea moves from thought into reality. Picture a team turning a drawing or proposal into something that actually exists.
例文
They are realizing their dream together.

Realizing this plan will take time.

The team is realizing a new idea.
そのチームは新しいアイデアを実現しようとしています。

realizing の語源・成り立ち Etymology
ラテン語 realis(現実の)から古フランス語 réaliser を経て英語に。re-(強調)+ alis(〜に関する)で「現実のものにする」が原義。real(現実の)や reality(現実)と同根。頭の中の考えを「現実化する」→「悟る」の意味も派生した。
Realizing is the present-participial and gerund form of realize. Real derives through French from Latin realis, “relating to things,” based on res, “thing.” The verb realize developed with the verb-forming suffix -ize and was also influenced by French réaliser. Its concrete sense is “make real,” from which the meaning “bring a plan or hope into reality” follows directly. The final silent e of realize is dropped before -ing.
