receive が分かれば土台は十分です。receivables は receive に -able が付き、さらに複数の -s が付いた形で、直感的には「受け取れるはずのお金がいくつもある」。会計では実際に現金を受け取った後ではなく、商品やサービスは渡したが入金待ちの状態を指します。accounts receivable という形で見ることが非常に多く、payables が「支払う側」、receivables が「受け取る側」と対で覚えると混同しにくいです。

receivables は receive に -able(s) が付いた形で、「受け取るべきもの」が複数あるという語です。receive は古フランス語経由でラテン語 recipere にさかのぼり、re-「受け・後ろへ」+ capere「取る」から成ります。だから会計では「あとで受け取る金額」つまり売掛金となり、同根語に receipt や recipient があります。
Receivables comes from receive with the ending -able, meaning "able to be received," plus the plural -s. Receive came through Old French from Latin recipere, made from re- and capere "to take." The sense developed into "amounts to be received later," especially in accounting; related words include receipt and recipient.
