redirected は re-「再び・別へ」と direct から成り、direct はラテン語 dirigere（まっすぐ導く）にさかのぼります。いったん向けた先をもう一度導き直す感覚から、「別の宛先へ回された」という意味になります。関連語に regulate, director があります。
