refinanced は re-「再び」+ finance で、finance は古フランス語 finance、さらにラテン語 finis「終わり」にさかのぼります。final や finish も同根で、借り方を組み替えて返済計画をもう一度“終わりまで整える”のが借り換えです。
Refinanced combines re- "again" with finance. Finance came through French and goes back to Latin finis, meaning "end" or "boundary," because it first had to do with settling a payment or bringing a matter to an end. From that, refinance came to mean arranging the financing again in a new way; related words include final and finish.
