relevantはラテン語relevare（re-再び＋levare持ち上げる）から派生し、「問題を再び持ち上げる→関わりがある」の意。toで対象を示す。関連語：relieve（重荷を持ち上げる→安心させる）、elevate（高く上げる）。ある話題を「再び浮上させる」ほど関係が深いという発想。
