Renegotiation is the process of discussing an agreement again in order to change its terms. It is common in business, contracts, pay, trade, and political deals. It usually happens when the original agreement no longer seems fair, practical, or possible.

renegotiation は re-「再び」+ negotiate + -ation。negotiate はラテン語 negotium「商売」にさかのぼり、nec「ない」+ otium「余暇」で「休んでいられない事」が核です。negotiable も同根で、再交渉がもう一度詰め直す語だと見えます。
"Renegotiation" is formed from re- "again," "negotiate," and the noun ending -ation. "Negotiate" goes back to Latin negotium, meaning "business" or "activity," from nec "not" and otium "leisure," so it originally suggested something that keeps a person busy.
