rhetoric は「内容そのもの」より「言い方で人を動かす」語。grammar が文法、logic が論理なのに対し、rhetoric は persuasive language の側だと置くと整理しやすい。political rhetoric、mere rhetoric の形でよく出て、後者は「中身より口先だけ」という否定的な響きになりやすい。rhetorical question も頻出なので rhetorical とセットで覚えると形が固定される。eloquence が雄弁さそのものなら、rhetoric はその表現技法や言説全体を指しやすい。
