横の方向へ、または横向きに動くことを表す副詞。人や物が正面ではなく側面を向いている状態や、まっすぐ前後ではなく横へずれる動きを述べるときに使う。視線や姿勢について述べる場合にも用いられる。
If something moves or turns sideways, it goes or faces to one side rather than forward or upright. It is often used to describe movement, position, or direction. In informal use, it can also suggest that something went wrong or developed in an unexpected way.
