sitar の語源・成り立ち Etymology
sitar はペルシア語 setār に由来し、se「三」+ tār「弦」に分けられる、もとは「三弦の楽器」という名です。名が構造をそのまま語っており、setar や dotar にも同じ tār「弦」の語根が見えます。
Sitar comes from Persian setar, made from se "three" and tar "string." It originally meant a "three-stringed" instrument, so the name described its structure directly. The same tar root appears in names of other instruments such as setar and dotar.
