「標準的な」とは、一般的に広く認められた基準や通常の型に沿っていることを表す形容詞です。特定の分野や社会において普通とみなされる水準や方法を指し、特別仕様ではない基本的な状態にも使われます。製品、手順、サイズ、品質などを説明するときによく使われます。

standardは古フランス語estandartを経て入り、ゲルマン系の stand「立つ」と結びつく語です。standやstatusも同根で、もとは人が集まる旗印や立てた目印のことだったため、「皆がよりどころにする基準」という意味へ育ちました。
Standard entered English through Anglo-French and Old French estandard or estandart, meaning a flag or military banner. The French word is generally considered Germanic in origin and is related to stand. The sense later developed from an authoritative banner or point of reference to an accepted model or measure, and hence to the adjective meaning "conforming to an accepted standard."
