Memory Tip
place a stent in an artery、keep the vessel open
Picture a tiny mesh tube placed inside a narrowed artery. Its job is to support the existing passage from within and keep it open, so learn the combinations place a stent in an artery, insert a stent, and the stent supports blood flow. stent の語源・成り立ち Etymology
The medical noun stent is generally traced to Charles Stent, a nineteenth-century English dentist whose surname was attached to a dental impression compound. The material was later adapted for surgical uses, and the name gradually broadened from a substance or supporting mold to devices used to maintain an opening in body structures. In modern medicine, stent most commonly denotes a small tube or mesh framework placed inside a vessel, duct, or similar passage.
