中英語 graft/graff は「接ぎ木した枝」を表し、古フランス語 grafe にさかのぼる。植物に枝を差し込む意味から、医学で移植する組織にも広がった。
The word graft comes from Middle English graft or graff, meaning a branch used in grafting, and it goes back to Old French grafe. From the idea of joining a piece of a plant to another plant, the word later came to mean tissue moved and attached in medicine.
