subsystem の語源・成り立ち Etymology
subsystem は sub-「下位の」+ system「体系」から成る語です。system はギリシャ語 systēma「組み合わされた全体」に由来し、syn-「共に」+ histanai「立てる」が語源なので、「全体を成り立たせる下位の仕組み」という意味になります。関連語は systematic, ecosystem。
Subsystem is a transparent modern formation combining the prefix sub-, from Latin sub meaning “under” or “below,” with system. System came through Latin from Greek systēma, meaning an organized whole or something brought together, related to syn- “together” and histanai “to set or stand.” The compound therefore denotes a system positioned within or below a larger system. It is especially common in engineering, computing, biology, and organizational analysis.
