解説 Definition
金属の表面が光沢を失って黒ずんだり、まだらに変わったりすること。たとえば空気や湿気にさらされた銀がくすむような状態を指す。さらに、評判や栄誉などが損なわれることもこの語の用法である。
To tarnish means to make metal lose its shine and become dull or darker. It can also mean to damage the good image or reputation of a person, group, or thing. The word is used both literally and figuratively.
