覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
thoughtless は thought(考え)+ -less(ない)と見れば覚えやすいです。まず thoughtful「思いやりがある」を知っていると、その反対が thoughtless だとすぐ整理できます。単に“何も考えていない”より、「人への配慮が抜けている」という非難の響きが強い語です。a thoughtless remark(不用意な一言), be thoughtless toward others のように、人を傷つける言動と結びつけて覚えると定着します。careless は不注意全般ですが、thoughtless は特に“相手の気持ちを考えない”感じです。
Split it into `thought` + `-less` = without enough thought. If you know `thoughtful`, `thoughtless` is the clear opposite. It is often used for words or actions that hurt people because no care was shown.

thoughtless の語源・成り立ち Etymology
thoughtless は thought(考え)+接尾辞 -less(〜がない)から成る。thought は古英語 þoht、-less も古英語由来で、直訳は「考えがない」。そこから「無思慮な」となり、thoughtful や think と同じ語族だ。
Thoughtless comes from thought plus the Old English suffix -less, meaning "without." Thought goes back to Old English thoht, from the same family as think and thoughtful. The literal sense was "without thought," which later developed into the idea of acting without care or consideration.
