transpired の語源・成り立ち Etymology
ラテン語のtrans-（横切って）＋spirare（呼吸する）に由来し、本来は「蒸発する」を意味しました。隠れた事実が外に「息のように漏れ出す」イメージから、「出来事が表面化して起こる」と派生しました。同じ語根のinspireやexpireも併せると納得できます。
