tyke は中英語 tike「雑種犬、粗野な者」に由来するとされ、さらに古ノルド語系までさかのぼると考えられます。分解語ではありませんが、「手に負えないやつ」が「やんちゃな子」へ和らいだのが面白く、tike や tykish が同系です。
Tyke comes from Middle English tike, which meant a dog of low quality or a rough, unpleasant person. It is thought to go back to Old Norse or another northern Germanic source. Over time, the harsh sense softened, and the word could be used more lightly for a lively or troublesome child.
