unable の語源・成り立ち Etymology
able はラテン語 habilis（扱いやすい、適した）に由来し、古フランス語を経て英語に入った語。否定接頭辞 un- が付いて「適した力がない」を表す。
Unable is formed from un-, a negative prefix, and able. Able came into English through Old French and goes back to the Latin word habilis, meaning suitable or easy to handle. The whole word developed the sense of not having the fitting power or skill.
