unambitiousはun-「否定」+ ambitious「野心のある」。ambitiousはラテン語ambire「周りを歩いて票を集める」が元で、昔の候補者が支持を求めて歩き回る姿から生まれました。ambitionやambientも同根で、「周囲を巡る」感覚が残っています。
Unambitious is built from un- and ambitious. Ambitious comes from Latin ambire, literally "to go around," because Roman politicians walked around asking people for support. From that idea of seeking favor and advancement, the word developed into the modern sense seen in ambition and ambitious.
