Unspecific means not clear or exact in detail. It is used when information, instructions, or descriptions are too general. In careful writing, 'nonspecific' is often more common, especially in formal contexts.
覚え方のコツ Memory Tip
まず specific「具体的な・特定の」を確実に押さえると覚えやすいです。unspecific は un- が付いて、その反対で「具体性がない」「はっきりしない」。意味は vague や general に近いですが、specific であるべき場面で細部や焦点が足りない感じが出ます。an unspecific answer / description のように、説明や返答がぼんやりしていて、何を指すのか十分に絞れていない場面を思い浮かべると定着しやすいです。unspecified は「明記されていない」、unspecific は「内容が具体的でない」と区別すると混同しにくくなります。
First fix `specific` firmly in your mind: clear, exact, detailed. Then `unspecific` becomes the natural opposite, used when an answer or description lacks detail. Do not mix it up with `unspecified`, which usually means not stated or not mentioned.

unspecific は古英語由来の否定接頭辞 un- と、ラテン語 specificus に由来する specific から成ります。specific は species「種類」や facere「作る」と結びつき、specify と同根なので、「種類や対象をはっきり示す specific でない」から、詳細が足りず具体的でないという意味になります。
Unspecific is made from un- "not" and specific. Specific comes from Latin specificus, built from species "kind, type" and facere "to make."
