subscribe「購読する」を知っていれば、先頭の un- が付いて「その状態を外す」と考えると覚えやすいです。メールやニュースレターで subscribe / unsubscribe は頻出の対で、unsubscribed は「解除済みの状態」。an unsubscribed user のように名詞の前にも置けます。canceled よりも対象が「購読・配信登録」に寄る語で、subscribed との対比で覚えると定着しやすいです。

unsubscribed は un-「取り消す」+ subscribed から成る。subscribe はラテン語 sub-「下に」+ scribere「書く」に由来し、subscription や script も同根。もとは「下に署名する」なので、購読を外す意味へ自然につながる。
Unsubscribed comes from unsubscribe, formed with un- and subscribe, plus -ed. Subscribe goes back to Latin subscribere, literally "to write under," from sub- and scribere. It first referred to signing one's name below something, and later developed into joining or paying for a service, so the modern form means that connection has been removed; script and subscription are related words.
