user は use に「〜する人」の接尾辞 -er が付いた語です。use は古フランス語 user、さらにラテン語 uti（使う）にさかのぼり、related: useful, usage。つまり user は「何かを使う人」がそのまま語源です。
User is formed from use plus the ending -er, meaning "a person who does something." Use came through Old French from Latin uti, meaning "to use" or "make use of." So user originally meant simply "a person who uses something." Related words include useful and usage.
